Frithsden Construction were pleased to be involved on this project – a chance to create a new build contemporary home within the owner's large grounds. The family had a wishlist of the space that they wanted to create for their forever family home. In order to maximise this our architect designed a home over 4 floors offering great flexibility of space that could evolve over time depending on the family's needs and the ages of the children.
The basement level offers a large lounge with feature tiled fireplace and large windows and sliding doors, along with a playroom and sliding doors to the courtyard and garden.
Prior to the excavation a contiguous piled wall was needed - 15 metres long with piles at 18 metres deep to support the separation of the properties. To the rear of the basement, practical rooms such as utility, plant room and gym, along with a spare bedroom and en-suite.
A glass and oak staircase, cleverly lit with LED lighting, rose to the ground floor. With the feature kitchen/family room with panoramic sliding doors across the full width of the house, making the best of the view out to the large garden and terraces. A further study, cloak and integral garage complete this level.
The first floor comprises a luxury master suite, with balcony and bespoke wardrobes built by our carpenters, large bathroom with freestanding bath and wet room. Also on this floor are 2 further bedrooms and family bathroom, along with an ever useful laundry chute straight down into the utility room – handy when living over 4 floors!
Then even more space on the top floor – full height rooms, offering another bathroom, bedroom and reading area to the landing with bespoke bookshelves and storage. A very spacious and well thought out comtemporary family home.
Chatting to the family after moving in, they all love living in their new home and did expect to miss their old home of 10 years. But as the children saw the build develop, and were able to familiarise themselves wth their bedrooms, and again be involved in choosing paints colours and blinds etc together. The transition was smooth, and they have really enjoyed using the space in so many different ways.

We have recently constructed a new build house within the plot of our existing 1930s house. This is a four-storey house that includes a large basement and a converted attic. We have previously had a poor experience with a builder so were looking for a local company with a track record of high quality work to complete the project for us. We also wanted a company who could supply the full design and build package.
We first approached Frithsden, who talked through the project with us and also showed us a number of the previous houses they have built in the area. All of these houses are built to an exceptional standard with real focus on detail and a very high quality finish. Frithsden work with an excellent team of tradespeople, architects and structural engineers, so can provide a full service from initial concept through to the finished product. This is all supervised by very experienced project managers who have been a pleasure to work with. We have lived next door to the construction site for a year, so have been in almost daily contact with the teams.
The real difference with Frithsden, compared to other builders, is that the whole project is co-ordinated by Anthony and then Julie provides invaluable design advice and has accompanied us to choose bathrooms, kitchens, tiles etc. and guided us on design features and colour schemes to really finish the house off. They are one of the few companies we have seen in the area that can provide the quality of finish that we were looking for. This extends to all the trades, who all "do things properly" and take pride in the standard of work within the house.
We have inevitably had some issues coming up during the project, but they have always been dealt with and resolved quickly by Anthony and the team. The project has exceeded our expectations and has been delivered in the time frame we expected. There are probably cheaper builders out there, but having gone down this route before, we would highly recommend using Frithsden as the build quality and the manner in which they work is second to none.
